The Dean's Forum

Each Sunday morning there is an opportunity for adults to come together during Fellowship in Faith for spiritual conversation around diverse topics. Come and join an open and supportive conversation in which you will find yourself uplifted and encouraged on your spiritual journey. It is not necessary to make it to every session. Enough context is provided each week for you to join the conversation whenever you are able to attend.

This is an opportunity for those new to The Episcopal Church, and those not-so-new, to ask questions about faith, spirituality, Jesus, God, religion, and why we do what we do at church.

Join us on Wednesday evenings in Advent for a discussion on Richard Rohr’s latest New York Times bestseller, The Universal Christ: How a Forgotten Reality Can Change Everything We See, Hope For, and Believe. Drawing on scripture, history, and spiritual practice, Rohr articulates a transformative view of Jesus Christ as a portrait of God’s constant, unfolding work in the world.

Rohr is a globally recognized ecumenical teacher whose work is grounded in Christian mysticism, practices of contemplation, and compassion for the marginalized. He is a Franciscan priest and founder of the Center for Action and Contemplation.

The class will begin with a shared, light meal in the Mercer refectory followed by conversation in the Mercer library. Registration is free, but required. If you are able to bring something to share at dinner, please select the date and item you intend to bring.

A catechumen is a person receiving instruction in preparation for becoming a member of the church. In this class, you will learn the basics of Christian doctrine, practice, and living a Christian life. Father Delaney will lead the group in prayer, instruction, and conversation. This class takes place during Fellowship in Faith. It is appropriate both for adults and young adults preparing to be received or confirmed in The Episcopal Church at the Easter Vigil, as well as for those who would simply like a refresher course. The Great Fifty Days of Easter is the time when the church invites us to live into the very mysteries of our faith. The process of reflection and discernment is called "mystagogy", a Greek word meaning "living into the mysteries."

This forum, led by Dean Sniffen and Canon Delaney, will explore how we can discover our own unique spiritual gifts and deepen our understanding of the mysteries of faith.
